  1. The IDF and the general policies of Israel is what gave rise to Hamas. The Palestinian resistance used to be secular up until relatively recently.

  2. They don’t care, they were salivating over the financial deals and weapons sales they were going to get under all this normalization. (And that is also true of some of the other Gulf Arab states). Do you remember a few years ago a ‘Saudi blogger’ visited Israel as part of an unofficial trial of the normalization? The Palestinians literally spat and threw chairs at him. I also saw from four weeks ago some random Saudi citizen made an angry video condemning the Palestinians, saying they were not real Arabs and all kinds of racist garbage towards them. My guess is that he was some businessman who was going to make a lot of money over the normalization. These Arab rulers, I including KSA, don’t think in terms of an Islamic Ummah, they think in terms of their nation state. Having said all that, I think Israel’s initial response of unbridled brutality shocked everyone, and angered Arab people across the region, so these leaders had to make statements in order to placate the people. Gulf Arab states have a lot of corruption.
