  13. @ Well, you raise some interesting points. Regarding acceptance in a Middle Eastern society, I can’t say for certain, since I’m so far removed, by my belief is that your religion would be much more a factor than your race. Arabs are not a monolithic race, and there are European looking among us, perhaps due to the lands once hosting an empire, people migrating, and some people having been conquered. Even aside from the religion, our group is more defined by culture and language, rather than race. I’m speaking very generally here, and again, I have not lived as an adult in one of those societies, so it may be that I am wrong. You’re right that Europe is unique with its immigration policies, but I think part of that is due to its colonial past. Once connection due Algerians, Moroccans, Indians, Africans and others have to Europe, except for the past colonialism, which entailed a transfer of wealth and resources (including human), from those lands into Europe. Have you ever seen the Dutch painting A Tribute from the Colonies? In the modern age the western nations dictate the whole global financial system and decide which leader or national policy is unfit for what land. In the 1990s it was decided that Iraq could not import graphite for pencil lead, chlorine for water treatment, or medicine for testable conditions, and shortly thereafter it was decided that Iraq must be invaded, its government overthrown and army dissolved. When western people cheer on or allow their governments to do this around the world, don’t they understand that in those foreign lands there will be victims or collaborators of other races who will eventually end up on their shores? As for the role of social media, during my lifetime people have always been aware of the conflict between Israel and the Palestinians, but previously accepted the standard MSM has excuses that Israel needs to defend itself, is surrounded by enemies, is the only democracy in the region, is a moral army, etc. Now with social media and real time news, people are able to see through that. They are also for the first time hearing the perspective of the Palestinians, or learning about the origins of the Zionist movement. And on top of all this, they are witnessing their government leaders slavishly go along with, defund and facilitate whatever Israel wants. The people in the West are understanding that their own leaders lack free agency on the matter of Middle East policy. A few weeks ago this channel hosted an interview with Historian Ilan Pape, where he described Israel as an instance of European settler colonialism. He said it was another instance where a group had left Europe for a new land, wiped away the people in the way, and tried to transform the new land into Europe. This is also what happened throughout the Americas, Africa, Australia, New Zealand. This is generally viewed as a destructive phenomenon, and Israel is the latest example of that phenomenon.

  14. @ I think there is a very different attitude towards science and technology between Western and Islamic civilization. In the West, Science was something that went against the religious teachings, and has since become a religion of its own. All of this technology that has caused a lot of destruction to the planet and human society is the outcome of this terminal materialism that has come about since religion was replaced by science. In a Muslim mindset, when we learn about science, for us it is like being told of the mechanism that God did something in the creation. A scientific explanation for some phenomenon does not stand by itself, but rather is an explanation for how God implemented the world. It will sound odd, but we believe the Sun is subordinate to God, the clouds, and everything else. I have some nuisance animal (perhaps a mole) in the backyard that digs hole every where, and I just say to myself oh well, and that he is being a Muslim in the only way he knows how. As in, for us, this whole universe and everything both animate and static within it, are serving God, and a witness to his existence. It’s a very different way of thinking about the world. It is not like we are just speaking a different language, we actually think very differently about life, its purpose, its end, and all these things in it. I have met so many messed up people from western cultural backgrounds. Hopeless, abused, materialistic, etc, who don’t think there is anymore to existence than however many years we have on this planet, an no innate purpose to our existence, other than to have a good time. On the one hand, they think very freely, and do things that are very daring, but on the other hand, their culture has had to invent thinks like Prozac, because it has made things so difficult for them.
