  5. The funniest part about all this is Russia has expressed interest in no other country than their brotherly Ukraine. It would be extremely costly to maintain an occupation in hostile territory like Poland. It's not the same thing in eastern Ukraine, where the local people are Russian in ethnicity and have moral conviction in their support of Russia. I hope this war escalation breaks Europe economically. They've lost sight of what used to make them great.

  9.  @joo7454  yes, Russia respected their rights to live as independent neutral countries from 1991 till 1999 when the first wave of NATO expansion began. I've asked Estonians and Latvians what their reasons were for joining NATO, and all of them spoke of their past history as the USSR as being the reason, NOT a present/developing threat in the 90s. The more important question is why NATO continued to exist after the fall of the USSR, which it was created to destroy. That's a question for the warmongers and hawks to answer.
