So is stoltenberg admitting that refusing to offer Russia security guarantees was a "mistake" (that could not have been justified by the invasion)? Interesting, finally we're making progress. So we have to ask Stoltenberg: why did NATO insist on making that mistake? And if he knows it was a mistake, what steps is NATO taking to correct it?

@topquark6919 If you've lost almost 20% of your country, over 400,000 troops, don't know if you'll have electricity today and have to beg countries for billions in weapons and cash to continue a war, you're not winning Especially if you could have lost nothing by honoring a signed agreement

@kevinmeganck1302 how would Russia have invaded the Baltics if Ukraine, Finland and Sweden were kept out of NATO? Finland was neutral for 75 years and had great relations with Russia all that time, would maintaining the status quo have suddenly triggered an impulse to invade? 😂😂😂😂😂 The joke writes itself, my friend.

@yohanessugiarto8620 Stoltenberg mentions 3 points in the initial request (there may be more but let's work with just these). He said remove NATO infrastructure from the eastern part of the alliance, buffer zones (which includes the Baltics according to him) , and no further enlargement to Finland, Sweden and Ukraine. Did NATO make a counter offer excluding what was considered "unacceptable" or did they reject everything outright? Well, not only did they reject it, they also mobilized forces (in response to a peaceful request!). That's not negotiating, that's provocation. And that's what Stoltenberg is referring to as a mistake.

Here are just some of his initiatives: 2007 Warned NATO against eastward expansion and escalation of the military conflict. 2013 During the coup d'etat asked the President of Ukraine Yanukovych not to use force against protesters and not to declare a state of emergency. 2014 Proposed a plan to resolve the crisis in Ukraine "Minsk 1". 2015 Supported the German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier who proposed a special procedure for the entry into force of the law on the special status of Donbass provided for by the Minsk agreements. 2015 Proposed to sign an additional agreement "Minsk 2", where the obligations of the parties to the conflict were spelled out in more detail. 2017 Proposed to place a UN mission on the Line of contact in Donbass to ensure the safety of employees of the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission. At the same time, he did not rule out that such a mission could be located on the entire territory of the conflict, but with the consent of the proclaimed republics of Donbass. 2021 Warns NATO against unleashing a war and suggested discussing with the United States a draft treaty on security guarantees and an agreement on measures to ensure the security of Russia and NATO countries. @JessicaIsabelah Russia is not fighting a total war by their definition and it's clear to see. No mass mobilization of the population, and fighting with preset rules according to the level of escalation. That's why Russia didn't flood the skies of Kyiv with cruise missiles last year when the 40 mile convoy of armored vehicles parked outside it for 6 days. It's funny to see how many people in the West think Russia is going all out as one in a war would. You know nothing. Russia could've sent cruise missiles through Zelensky's bedroom windows on day one- that's what war is.

But that offer was NOT made. You should take Stoltenberg's job. Also, NATO infrastructure is not just AA and jets: it's also offensive and dual purpose strike weapons. The fact you'd leave this out is sheer dishonesty.

@ugli88 I never said what you quoted. I said refusal to negotiate and provocation was the mistake (as I said in my reply to Yohannes Sugiarto). Comprehension is clearly not your strong suit, and I'm aware most people abuse drugs in the West nowadays so I'm not surprised. Copy and print out my replies to Yohannes, paste it above your bed and read it until you get it. At the same time, seek therapy.

@ugli88 yes I perfectly understand the situation: NATO doesn't negotiate, they only escalate (that's why Russia's borders have remained unchanged since 1991 and NATO has spread to 19 countries more) and Ukraine was the last straw. @kevinmeganck1302 Russia did not have a knife on Ukraine's throat in 2013. It was actually a rather productive and beautiful relationship. Ukraine was even earning billions of dollars from transit fees of oil and gas to Europe through 3 separate transit pipeline projects.
