What hard way? Russia respected Finland's neutrality through the highest tensions with the West during the Cold War. If they meant Finland any harm it would've happened then.

@jadar9356 if you have a point, prove it. The Cold war is more recent than 1939, and the treaty of neutrality was respected during it.

@TacticalFumo-sg2dt Kazakhstan is also pretty neutral. Refused to recognize the Donbass as part of Russia like Belarus. And they've never been attacked by Russia. Same goes for the other CIS Nations, none of them have sent troops or equipment but they're not getting invaded. You have to work extra hard to justify the Boogeyman caricature of Russia that you've painted.

@TacticalFumo-sg2dt because Finland is led by politicians of course, who have the power to make decisions on behalf of their people. The decision to join NATO was not the result of some referendum or poll, something which Niinisto said himself "the referendum to join NATO is no longer necessary". Clearly it was still a matter of open discussion. That's how soft power operates: through politicians that usurp the rights of their citizens to choose (yet, still call themselves democracies).

@TacticalFumo-sg2dt we're talking about Finland here, not Ukraine. Different countries present different levels of perceived threats, that's not difficult to understand. The treaty of neutrality was still standing at the point of Finland breaking out to join NATO. For Ukraine, it was in 2008. Different countries, different relationships.

@DJWESG1 don't ask me. Hasn't Cuba been under sanctions for at least 25 years? Aren't they the ones that American Latinos call "Castagnos"? You think they don't have some radicals upset about that? Don't make me laugh. The US has enemies all over the world. They will respond to the call of Russia in a desperate situation.

@nikolai_avangard I don't see any reason to believe you given the mountain of instances when the "experts" at DW and MSNBC and CNN misled the world about Russian capabilities. But you're entitled to your opinion for sure
