Japan decided to claim sovereignty over the Kuril Islands right in the middle of Russia's tensions with Eastern Europe... They were even one of the first to sanction Russia. Their President thought it'd be a good idea... Lol

@Azdal "watching the USSR annex every country it went by"... Um... Please what countries did the USSR annex after WW2? I'm getting the impression I might be talking to someone who likes to make up stories as they go by- I believe that's called a Propagandist- but please first answer the question.

@Azdal They were all sovereign countries! Poland with the USSR was a member of the Warsaw Pact- this was a military alliance just like NATO! This is just like calling the USA is currently annexing France. Or... Is that what NATO is?

@Azdal I thought the allies fought WW2 as allies? All that sacrifice of pain and lives that you all shared all around the world .. was all a joke? War is a collective effort, as you can see yourself feeling the pain of Ukraine from your cushy nice country, in wars everyone feels what the other is feeling. It seems there's no limit to what the West can cancel whenever yall want. Like a switch. You're not even talking about the status of current negotiations about these islands which were broken the instant Japan sanctioned Russia? Please go and read the history of the Kuril Islands and understand that mutual trade was the only factor required to maintain stability in this region. As always the USA is involved! Check the treaty of 1956!

Because Japan is being colonized by the USA, as in its a vassal state. The Japanese are suffering from loser's guilt/Stockholm syndrome and America is using that opportunity to maintain its stranglehold.

@esense9602 this exactly! I think they thought Russia was weakened by sanctions and decided to take advantage. Japan was one of the first to sanction Russia so they must've had this on their minds for a while.
