@dougaltolan3017 NATO was created to contain the threat of Soviet expansion in Europe. When the Soviet Union collapsed, NATO's mission was accomplished. However, NATO began to expand. The very thing they were created to stop, they became it. Taking even former Soviet republics by fiat orders (there were no votes among their people to join, it wasn't important to civilians because Europe was at peace), NATO expansion happened in such a pattern as to cut off Russia (the husk of the Union, the central body left) from year round warm water ports in the Black and Caspian seas. Between 1991 and 1999 when the first wave of expansion happened, Russia poised no threat to anyone. So who was that expansion benefiting, and against whom? Russia's security concerns are very real.
