Hindsight is 20-20, so it's easy for you to say. From my perspective, I believe Putin was holding on to the hope that the Minsk Agreements would be respected in the eyes of France and Germany and they would put pressure on Ukraine to honor it. Also, when did Yanukovych invite the Russian military to help him regain control? I don't remember such a thing ever happening. Provide your source.

@caveman-zd5yv I just googled it, and it was Russia's envoy to the UN that said this (4 March 2014), not from the words of Yanukovych himself. There's a big difference between Russia's envoy saying Yanukovych asked Russia for troops (after his removal from office by March 2014, possibly to justify the occupation of Crimea) AND Yanukovych saying this himself using his presidential powers as the sitting president of Ukraine. In comparison, the president of CAR called for Russia's assistance to help with the French trained islamists and Putin sent Wagner. They've been in CAR since 2018.
