  1. ​ /  you have a good understanding of the situation but there's a part where I disagree, and it's about Putin. Ukraine and Russia already had a peace agreement in place in Ankara last year. The details of that agreement included security guarantees from Ukraine to stay out of NATO, with the surrender if Zaporizhzhia and Kherson back to Ukraine. Boris Johnson interfered with that peace process with his famous quote "even is Zelensky is ready to negotiate, we are not". Previously there were other agreements which included the Donbass being part of Ukraine and military neutrality (like Switzerland or Thailand) but for some reason Ukraine flatly refused to honor them. That can't be Putin's fault. He's been warning a lot about NATO's expansion ever since the 2007 Munich Security conference, you can Google it. The question I prefer to ask is why does a military alliance feel the need to expand however it likes in peacetime? Is joining a military alliance the most important thing to people living freely and peacefully?
