If it was a blind vote, the result would've been much different. Most countries are terrified of US sanctions which would be the punishment for voting against US interests in a matter as sensitive as this.

@skunker52 organizing referenda is supposed to be the decision of the UN, agreed. However there have been countless instances of the UN failing to perform its responsibilities, reacting to troubled spots around the world by responding to popular outcries with action and we know the US wields great influence within the UN. Before the UN we had the League of Nations which collapsed because of this same reason. I'm from a country with fierce secessionist agitations that have lasted decades so I understand exactly how the people of Donbass feel, we also had our petitions ignored by the UN, EU and UK parliaments (we're a former British colony). Most people that ignore the rights to self determination of Donbass don't care to walk an inch in the shoes of others to know how much they hurt. Its always been a selfish world. You also have to agree that sanctions are an effective deterrent to opposition. EDIT_ one more thing: Spain won't recognize Kosovo which split from Serbia, because they don't want anyone to recognize Catalonia which has been trying to split from Spain. They have their selfish reason as well.

@cadicamo8720 name calling and the use of slurs. Typical.

@youravaragemexican1293 are you kidding? Nicaragua is reacting to recent struggles with the US, 2021 and 2022. Give it a year or two and they'll get their turn. At the moment they simply don't care, like Iran.

@cadicamo8720 from your very first reply to me you showed the limit of your intelligence and you continue to demonstrate it. Amazing.

@pacmanc8103 what do you have against blind votes? Its a valid concern, considering the fact that US sanctions are a powerful deterrent: Russia is literally the only country that can withstand sanctions as well as they did because they're a powerful resource economy. How many countries in Africa and Asia are like that? None. A blind vote would've allowed countries the security they needed to make their voices heard by the numbers. That's a fact your absent-minded dribble will not be able to erase.
