the alliance is in the wrong. They knew what they were doing when they expanded up to Russia's borders, now they're facing the consequences of that act and they're flinching. They know if it comes down to a nuclear exchange, they caused it.

@DkE4gleDk the first wave of NATO expansion was in 1999. The second in 2002, then 2004, and there were 5 waves before they to prepare Ukraine and Georgia for membership in 2008. 6 years later Russia took Crimea after the removal of Yanukovych.

@BareFootCalvin at the end of the Cold war and the dissolution of both the Warsaw Pact and the USSR, Russia invaded nobody until 1999 when the first wave of expansion happened. Then they did it again 4 more times. It was at the Bucharest summit of 2008 that Russia drew the line at Georgia and Ukraine.
