Kazakhstan and Belarus were also signatories to the Budapest Memorandum and they enjoy great relations with Russia as joint members of the Collective Security Treaty Organisation CSTO. They've never been invaded by Russia. Only Ukraine put itself in such a position as to threaten Russia via NATO involvement.

@pheolet9625 The invasion stopped Alexander Dubček's Prague Spring liberalisation reforms and strengthened the authoritarian wing of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia (KSČ). That wasn't the "government being uncomfortable for Russia", that was the Communist party preventing a Revolution and it was by invitation.

The Warsaw Pact caused to exist in 1991. It was never broken while it lasted.

@DutchmanAmsterdam Ukraine was not a ruthless dictatorship under Yanukovych, was it? The election was freee and fair by all standards. Yet it was on good terms with Russia, so good that the USA had to topple his govt via a coup in 2014. What exactly is your point?

If you're talking about the Budapest Memorandum, Ukraine wasnt the only signatory to that treaty. Belarus and Kazakhstan also were party to it, but they were never invaded by Russia, in fact they enjoy great relations as joint members of the Collective Security Treaty Organisation CSTO. Only Ukraine wanted to be used as a puppet of the West and thus made itself a target.

@fungo6631 those are just labels you use to cast aspersions on people you don't understand. Turkey is a NATO country led by an authoritarian and nobody even seems to notice. Belarus doesn't pay tax in any form to Russia but it's a "puppet state"

You're talking about events that happened in 1932, before the USSR made the great advancements in science and tech, medicine and space exploration that they made until 1991. Everyone can go back far enough to dig up old grievances and use them to radicalise themselves and threaten each other.
