It has been claimed by the trans ideologues to mean something insane that it doesn't mean. It just means sex. Secondly, I agree that sex is a better word because of that ugly confusion. Only in the last few years (and perhaps back to John Money - lovely man...) did people try to differentiate, and make gender, as you say, into some kind of 'expression'. The problem with this is, firstly, there's zero evidence for it. Secondly, even if we are to accept there is standard for expression of gender - give us some examples. Long hair and nails is a woman? How offensive! How regressive. What happened to the progressive idea that a boy can do stereotypically feminine activities without being told by society he's actually a woman?

  201. I think you raise a good and empathetic point. What I’d say though is that these celebrities have all too gleefully taken in an ideology that seriously harms their children. I take Hanlon’s razor seriously and don’t attribute malice where stupidity will do. So I’m attributing it to stupidity rather than evil. Plus Malcolm used the word dumb. I know what you’re saying re the tone, too - but on YouTube you can’t have more nuanced titles. The video itself is more nuanced. Thanks for engaging!

  203. Right...so do I think I'm edgy? Or am I 'controlled opposition'? Or am I just a guy who has a YouTube channel, and Katy got in touch on Twitter, and we decided to have a chat? I don't have evidence that shadow-banning on YouTube is a thing. I can't say for sure, but I don't think it happens - and every time someone complains about being shadow-banned, I check their channel and see immediately that it needs a LOT of work. I gave Kellie JK pages and pages of YouTube advice (after she asked). That may sound patronising - and I don't know if she'll implement it - but I'm good at YouTube. YouTube is a skill in and of itself, and I work 20 hours a day on it; I've spent years now researching and testing things on it. I still get it wrong a lot, though. A lot of people are great speakers, but there's a LOT of hard work and knowledge required to 'YouTube' well. I said in an ad that I'd been shadow-banned, but it was tongue in cheek. The original had me then say 'not that I believe in that' - but it got cut for time in editing. Stuff like that happens sometimes; it's not malicious, it's not some big conspiracy. It's a mistake. It happens. All of that enough for you? (Obviously not, it never is!)

One was the overtly racist far-right British National Party. No surprise there! The other was the left-wing Labour Party under the recent leadership of Jeremy Corbyn.   218.  @CMA418  You're not 100% wrong, but I believe you are framing from the position of somebody not in this profession. What if we changed it to: a. sticking with what the core audience wants all the time, and making just enough revenue to get by. b. not being able to make a living from youtube or even being able to afford to make the videos. We can compromise a bit. But what you have to understand is that just one or two videos that perform badly (and trust me, going outside of what the core audience wants always kills your videos) can ruin your whole channel. Look how many channels have millions of subscribers but don't even get 5k-10k views per video. That's what happens if you take your eye off the ball for one moment. If I want to be 'out there', I write a book, as I did. I've started a substack where I can do more challenging work. YouTube in its current format, doesn't allow for experimentation in that sense.

Leaving aside the time and effort it'd take to constantly monitor all my videos for wrong-think about me, and forgetting how important plurality of opinion is to me - even then, what would be the point? To massage my public impression? By deleting comments? It'd have a far worse effect long-term! YouTube is weird. It deletes half my own comments on my own channel. It's a really conservative idea, and nobody I've ever asked has been able to give me examples of female gender characteristics that aren't offensive to women. 3. Even if we were to accept this concept of a 'gendered soul' - a person of one sex who's traits better resembled that of the other - this should in no way have any say on policy. We separate men and women in changing rooms, prisons and sports because of sex, not this mystical idea of gender. So when the UN tweets 'Trans Lesbians Are Lesbians', what are they actually saying? And how should we interpret it? And how would they like us to change our laws to reflect their apparent belief?

That is also why the human gestation period is so much less time than other animals of similar sizes, and why human babies are unable to fend for themselves compared to other animals - women give birth to them at an earlier stage because the babies' heads are getting too big. But look up my name and Julia Haart or just type Hasidic Jews with my name. The problem is audience capture, so you have to have separate channels for separate issues. The audience of Heretics are particularly interested in the hypocrisies of the Left. The Left align with Islam in a way that they don't with the Christian fundamentalists (also on my old channel).

One of the biggest issues I’ve seen from covering people who left cults and religions is that - in trying to make amends - people can sometimes go too far the other way. Or make overly simplistic comparisons such as ‘I was wrong about homophobia, so now I’ll support gender ideology’. But these are two very different things. At least in my opinion :)

  734. Happy to explain! 1. Subs is just a vanity metric, and means little. This channel is 3 months old, so has gained 30k subs per month so far. Even so, it's not relevant: look at the average view count of each video - that's what matters. My channel's videos typically get 100k-500k views, sometimes more. This one with Rory might not do as well because it's a bit 'different', but we'll see. 2. This is my second channel. My other one has 300k subs and has been going for 4 years. I worked incredibly hard in that time, and made all sorts of contacts. Much of the revenue from my other channel was initially used to pay for the studio for the new one, as well as other costs, such as filming, editing and guest booking. I've never received even a penny of funding, or family support or anything like that. I worked two jobs, on minimum wage, for the first year. 3. I used to make and present documentaries for HBO and then the BBC, which helped me get guests early on. I taught myself to speak 5 languages, and made documentaries around the world - Dawkins loved my Argentinian exorcist doc for the BBC. 4. There's also the audio version of the podcast, as well as revenue I bring in from my book deal with Pan Macmillan, and several supporter channels (Patreon, Locals, YT Memberships & Apple Subscribers). I'm occasionally paid for speaking engagements, and YouTube itself brings in good money so that this new channel pays for itself now. All of that is to say - don't jump to conclusions re conspiracy theories (who is 'behind' it). As for derivative, I've been doing this for years. Hope that helps.

Not someone's first person experience...you don't just affirm an anorexic person's belief that they're fat. Those who are born with a mix of sex characteristics have nothing to do with trans people - who don't have a mix. It would be binary to simply go with this ideology because it's popular rather than scrutinise it. E.g. what do we mean when we say a trans woman is a woman? where is this empirical evidence? in fact - forget empirical evidence - just looking at theory - what does it mean for a man to feel they're a woman? what is a woman in this case?

  1137. That is an interesting point, but firstly, TV is not supposed to just reflect London. I don't know if stats are available to show how well they've gotten people from elsewhere, but I know there was a huge push to make TV representative of the entire country, lots of accents! Still, I accept that your point makes my own a little weaker. But in return, I'd say to you: before DEI - so 25 years ago - the UK had significantly fewer minorities and no DEI policies, so you'd expect the majority of TV actors and presenters 40 and older to be white. Perhaps unfairly so! That would mean that the stats I gave will be significantly larger among minorities for new hires and young talent. Perhaps 2x or 3x the stats I gave you, to make up (fairly or not) for the overly white older actors.

There are many other reasons I think this is really harmful, and I have an episode out soon explaining why. That said, that 40% figure makes me really sad. I am sure a lot of it is down to bullying. And some of it down to psychological issues, who knows? Still, that's very upsetting. I would happily use whichever pronouns you want, and respect your right to act how you want. It's a fundamental part of liberalism. And I'm sure if I met you, I'd like you very much.

So you've got 1, maybe 2 mins of ads out 80 mins. Try to find something like that ratio on TV or radio! Why do you have the patience for those media but not individuals on YouTube? I lose money with Heretics. So the goal is to make those losses as small as possible.

  1195. Do masculine and feminine exist on a spectrum? Maybe, yes. In fact, I'm inclined to say yes. But a principle of individual liberty for me means that if a woman is stereotypically masculine, she shouldn't be made to feel like her body is wrong for it, and she now needs a penis and to get changed in male changing rooms. It's a really conservative message to send to people, particularly children. I want my kids to be who they are, to defy gender stereotypes, and not feel like their bodies are wrong. I often ask people on the other side of the trans debate to come on, they never agree, even though I'm not exactly a harsh debater!  @citizenghosttown

I think meritocracy should be the only thing that determines who gets a job, although it's idealistic to assume it's always the case. But we should strive for that. Nobody need be included, because we have to account for culture. Why is it that black Africans do really well in school but black Caribbeans don't? Is that racism? Or is that because African families place historically more emphasis on family and learning? If we move away from meritocracy, what is the incentive for the black African families to continue working hard? Why do East and South Asians do so well? Could it be their culture? Should we punish them for that? Why do white kids at poor school consistently perform worse than any other culture? Should DEI give them jobs ahead of the minorities who out-perform them?

This idea that if the Right and Left both hate you, you must be doing something right; you must be balanced etc...well, the likelihood is you're just as blinkered and biased - and I'm sure I am!
