  1. It's the defences job to portray the complete opposite side of the argument. Then It's fair for the jury to weigh up the truth. On the other hand sometimes the prosecution have to bare face lie to get an innocent man charged. I'd argue that's much worse. It's only fair in each case though because otherwise the scales are biased to one way or the other. How else do you think they should go about it? Any other way makes no sense. Without the defences argument, the facts, and the prosecutors argument, how else is the jury supposed to find what best fits the truth of the situation. It's not nice for the lawyers to lie on either side but that's up to the jury to decide when provided with the evidence.
