Next Gen Nuke does not have "melt-down" issue, walk-away safe, and available now.

@ethan17748 We need rockets, too, since the moon has material needed for this technology, and first comes commercial use of MSBRs.

@yunghoprincelysafeh8199 Don't laugh, unlimited energy and Qbit blockchain will ignite a punctuation point in human evolution.

We should be putting greater resources behind Next Gen fission like MSBRs, China just went online with one last October.

NIF in California surpassed the break-even point last August, but still just in an experimental stage, so probably not in my lifetime. Having said that, my grandfather drove a horse-cart in Downtown Los Angeles in 1919 and lived to see a man walk on the moon. Often advances ignite and become exponential, like Moore's Law.

@starvingbull2377 If that were true, that "fusion" is not possible, all existence would not be possible.

Big oil is investing in it, LOL

@endintiers good point, but the avenue is still open since many unknowns.

@VolkerHett China went online with a working MSBR last October. Sustained reaction with thorium successful decades ago.
1
@VolkerHett Yes, the corrosive salts an issue, but new materials coming online, too, like a new form of plastic called 2DPA-1. Stronger than steel and does not corrode.
1
@willis936 Yes, but are you saying the technology is not transferable to civilian use? That would go against history.
1
@willis936 That's a statement of politics and ideology, not science. Do you know the story of my cousin, "Hymie" Rickover?

@CarlosAM1 I believe there's Deuterium on the Moon too, and extraction temps easier and safer to come-by there, especially for establishing a base. No oceans though, give you that.
1
@CarlosAM1 Yes, understood, I framed my statement poorly, we still need rockets, and can do both.
1
@adrianthoroughgood1191 Yes, but the H bomb requires fission first to trigger fusion reaction, so there is deadly radiation from it.
1
Experiments at Lawrence Livermore Labs has surpassed the "break-even" point with their Laser-Fusion tests. August 2021.
1
@StormGod29 That's made clear by the NIF team, my read is we should be putting bigger bets on next gen fission for now.
1
@StormGod29 Yes. and the father of climate change science himself, Dr. James Hansen, said as much to congress. But whether Gen IV or MSRs, still a lot of bad press to overcome.
