Comments by "nuqwestr" (@nuqwestr) on "High winds, lack of rain and climate change stoking California fires, say experts | BBC News" video.
no, that would not work. if you denude the hillsides there would be catastrophic erosion and flooding.

false, the California fire had nothing to do with climate or even weather. We've had record rains and minimal drought based on the US Drought Monitor. The area had been soaked in by fog for the last two months. The area has experienced cyclical burning since before humans arrived. Proof? Many of the native plants depend on fire and wind to propagate, like Manzanita.

There's plenty of water, the issue was water pressure going into the high hills.
1
? The winds usually arrive in the Fall and the wet period is February and March? We've been socked in with Fog on the Coast for the last two months. At PCH and Sunset the fog was so thick the surfers could not see the swells coming in. The fire started before the high winds hit. The area is in a moderate 01 drought based on the US Drought Monitor. You are incorrect.

@KOOLBadger bottom-line. I live here, now, not years ago. we don't call them "towns". Los Angeles County is 5,000 square miles with a population of 9 million. We are not "gone".

@kandihoarding7395 I listened to the entire Trump interview. Joe got a lot of stuff wrong, especially about Tulare Lake in the Central Valley of California. I like hearing them talk about it, but they were not experts.

Palisades fire had nothing to do with climate, the high winds are normal and so is the weather. Tell me what part of this had to do with global climate or warming?

@mastianschweinschechter8208 ? "Climate Change" has become a religious fetish, an incantation used by people without a clue to what it means.
1
No not climate change, which has become like a religious fetish for some.
1
@helenpauls1496 no, a 1.2 median increase has nothing to do with this fire. The coast in this area has seen record cool temps, fog, a two record floods. Our WEATHER oscillates due ENSO, El Nino and La Nina. "climate change" is now a religious fetish, more superstition than actuality.
1
@Tyradriknows That's my backyard, you would to denude many square miles of brush off hillsides for that to be true, which would increase erosion and cause catastrophic flooding.
1
Some claim the wrath of God while other claim the wrath of Climate Change. I don't see the difference, both are a fetish of religious fanatics.
1
I'm in California, climate change is a new religious fetish, I did not vote for Newsom, signed the recall, but this is not his fault. I lived here since the late 1950s, we burn. Jim Morrison even wrote a 1970 song about it, LA WOMAN.

Not Hollywood Blvd, it was Sunset Blvd miles away from Hollywood at the Beach.

@JasonPutschker-xw9uf My family developed that area in the 1950s early 1960s, Federal government pushed for housing through FHA, we took their money and built the suburbs for the rapidly expanding population. Much of Pacific Palisades was built out as modest small homes of stucco and wood. Land is now worth millions, but not those small houses, most are seen as tear downs by developers and fix/flip folks who take what was a small two-bedroom house and build a McMansion, two stories. Happened all over the Palisades because it's so beautiful there. If you have been there, you knew It was going to burn.

@Bubajumba We've had record cool temps on the Pacific Coast in SoCal since Feb of last year. The area has been fogged in for two months, too. I live here. The median rise has only been 1.2 degrees. Global weather patterns are different, but they had nothing directly to do with this Palisades fire. I've lived here since the late 1950s and remember the Bel-Air fire in 1961 and many, many others. What's increased in media attention.

@Jane-f6t7j only comments like yours are the more frequent and extreme, some even get paid to fearmonger.
1
The area is in the city of Los Angeles, not all wealthy, and the issue wasn't water, but water pressure to get up the hillsides.
1
Yes, you Hamas know the meaning of instant Karma.
1
Why, because that didn't happen. Vietnam already has high precipitation and rains flood the rice patties. We bombed the dikes to empty and flood the water out, not bring more. Where are you from?
1
@Lev1232 I live on the coast just a few miles south of Pacific Palisades, been here since the late 1950s. The wind events are not "increasing", nonsense, we normally get them in the fall, this is rather late. The term "Santa Ana Winds" was coined in 1886, even the detective writer, Raymond Chandler, wrote a story called "Red Wind" about the Santa Anas in 1938. "Climate Change" has become a religious fetish for some. Disgusting.

@OldScientist "poorly sited"? That's like saying the homes in Herculaneum were "poorly sited" It's beautiful, and the Getty Villa is there, appears it was saved. How ironic. The *Getty Villa* in Los Angeles is a *re-creation* of a *Roman country house* from the 1st century AD. It was modeled after the Villa of the Papyri, which was buried and preserved by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD.

you've been saying that for 2000 years, yet those hills have burned since before humans arrived.
