Comments by "nuqwestr" (@nuqwestr) on "How Russia's ‘kamikaze’ drones are changing the Ukraine war - BBC News" video.
Kamikaze Drone has a Chinese sourced 50HP 2/cycle moped engine and costs about $20K each. They are called "Loitering Drones" which home in on a target's radio signal, so not human directed.

Exactly right, and Ukraine also asked for Israelis to train Ukraine to use weapons. Quite an escalation. UN should ask China to stop sending the 50hp engines that run these drones to Iran.

BBC took Gantz's out of context. Ukrainian Foreign Minister officially requested air defense systems from the Israeli Foreign Ministry. These systems include Iron Beam, Iron Dome, Barak-8, Patriot, David's Sling and the Arrow anti-ballistic missile.

Ukraine officially asked for more than just the Iron Dome, they also asked for troops to train on the weapon systems. Ukrainian Foreign Minister officially requested air defense systems from the Israeli Foreign Ministry. These systems include Iron Beam, Iron Dome, Barak-8, Patriot, David's Sling and the Arrow anti-ballistic missile.

"Loitering Drones" are not controlled remotely, they are designed to home in a target signal.
4
Your comment is not "true", Ukraine asked for much more than Iron Dome, check the facts.
3
Israel has new laser anti-drone weapon called IRON BEAM which Ukraine asked for, but it is too new and difficult to deploy and train on.
2
Yeah, these drones have 50hp 2/cycle moped engines, really loud.
2
LOL, uses common Chinese made 50hp Moped engine and commercial GPS. Cheap crap easily defending against.
2
@paulbentley2709 Great idea, these are "loitering drones" designed to home in on a target signal.
2
Yes, the motors are commercially available 50hp moped engines supplied by China.

@jivkotodorov84 between 10k and 20k by most current estimates, what's the exchange rate and flux material costs?
1
Israel has the 100kw Iron Beam which Ukraine asked for, but still very new. It's not effective in bad weather and has a short range of about 2km. US version is 300kw, but both systems are very new and difficult to deploy and train on. There are other munition based systems which are cheaper and ready to go.
1
Ukraine officially asked for the "IRON BEAM" which Israel has and does exactly what you suggest. The story should have been about that.
1
These drones explode and are not intended to return to base, just like the Kamikaze planes of WW2. Kamikaze means "Divine Wind" in Japanese, and relates to a war myth when Japan fought the Mongols in the 13th Century, but now used generically for any suicide mission.

BBC just reported Iranian drone techs on the ground in Crimea.
1
kamakazi uses composite material and come in real low difficult for radar to detect, they come in swarms of 5-10 so difficult to get them all.
1
NBS C-RAM is very expensive and requires trained techs to deploy.
1
Drones use commercially available GPS and then homes in on a radio frequency which could easily be civilian target.
1
@micknotfromleitrim Iron Dome for high trajectory missiles, but Ukraine officially asked for many more types of weapons. BBC didn't cover that.
1
@paulbentley2709 Yes, these drones use commercially available GPS units and can be hacked.
1
Israel has a new anti-drone laser weapon good for about 7km called the "IRON BEAM" Ukraine has officially asked for it. I'll bet it will be secretly deployed for testing against the Iranian drone.
