@idrisali3947 Last year's report saw the Northern and Central regions recording their highest amount of coral cover since AIMS began monitoring 37 years ago.

These Coral are "White", it's the symbiotic organisms which give them the color. Corals have a symbiotic relationship with microscopic algae called zooxanthellae that live in their tissues. These algae are the coral's primary food source and give them their color Stressed Coral: If stressed, algae leaves the coral. Coral and Algae adapt to changing conditions, these changes have been going on since before mammals were on the planet.

@JJRM8 No, that was in 2016/17. 2022 was a large recovery as reported by The AIMS' Annual Summary Report on Coral Reef Condition for 2022/23 found that while some reefs continued to recover, their increased hard coral cover was offset by coral loss on other reefs. Most reefs underwent little change in coral cover. This follows last year's report, which saw the Northern and Central regions recording their highest amount of coral cover since AIMS began monitoring 37 years ago.

@GrayDogNowIDK It is absolutely True, and has been since before humans were on the planet.

@Nxck2440 Coral recovery on much of Great Barrier Reef by Australian Institute of Marine Science 2022/2023. AIMS is the official science on the subject, argue with them

@ReveredWizardBob Yes, there's an El Nino in the Pacific which is ending and the cooler La Nina is predicted by ENSO for this summer. It's a 3-5 year cycle going on for hundreds of years. AIMS made it clear the 2021 season had the largest growth in the 37 years they've been tracking it. The type of growth, and its sustainability is another question.

@ReveredWizardBob Not exactly "animals" Most corals contain algae called zooxanthellae (pronounced zo-UH-zan-thuh-lay), which are plant-like organisms.

El Nino is predicted to end this summer with a more than 55% chance of La Nina for coming season in the Pacific. ENSO. La Niña is the cool phase of the El Niño-Southern Oscillation (ENSO) cycle, which is a climate pattern that occurs in the tropical Pacific. La Niña is the cooling of ocean surface temperatures in the central and east-central equatorial Pacific, while El Niño is the warming of ocean surface temperatures in the same region. La Niña events typically occur every 3 to 5 years, but can sometimes happen over multiple years.
