3,000 barrels is nothing, an oil tanker carries 2 million, and the pipe is closed, this is nothing, I live near the spill, and the cargo ships backing up at Long Beach are a bigger environmental issue, you are being gas lighted.
3
Oil has been seeping into that environment since before humans arrived, I live just north of HB, it is nothing.
2
@silversurfer3202 Yeah, it's 3,000 barrels, in 1990 an oil tanker spilled 5Xs that much with little or no after affect. My own local media and the Mayor of Huntington Beach are playing it up, they lost millions when the Air Show was cancelled because of the spill, so their "concern" is for the coming lawsuit against the oil company for lost revenue. Drama has value, humans grave it, and why we even accept lies and exaggeration to get the fix.
2
It now appears that a cargo ship dragged an anchor over the pipe, a pipe that was recently inspected and in fine condition. The spill is less than originally reported, and will be cleaned and gone in a few weeks.
2
"Go"? It's over, the pipe is closed and only 3,000 barrels released. An oil tanker holds 2 million barrels, this is nothing. The cargo ships backing up at the port of Los Angeles are a bigger environmental concern.
2
Turns out it was a non USA registered Cargo Ship that ran an anchor across the pipeline, most likely, and the amount is far less than reported. I live a few miles from the break, not a big issue here with the exception of the beach being closed for a couple of weeks.
2
@0IIIIII Not even that, it was most likely a non USA Cargo ship's anchor that ran across the pipe and broke it, much less oil released than reported, too.
2
@joellepeters9204 No, the pipe is owned by US company, but the Cargo ship that dragged the anchor over the pipe and broke it was not. Much less oil released than reported, too.

Associated Press now reporting: "California spill not the environmental disaster first feared" Coast Guard revised down the estimated spill, perhaps less than 1,000 barrels.

HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. (AP) — A Southern California beach that had been closed since an undersea pipeline leaked crude into ocean waters last week is set to reopen Monday, officials announced Sunday night.

Texas oil company but it turns out it was a cargo ship dragging an anchor over the pipe.

? You think 3,000 barrels is "Karma", when that area has been seeping oil into the ocean since before humans arrived? Pure ignorance. I live near the spill, you are wrong.

It's only 3,000 barrels, it's a nothing burger, in 1990 a tanker dumped 4X as much and it had no lasting affect. I live here, too, and know that 100 years ago HB was one big oil platform, with derricks running for several miles right on the beach. Relax.
1
@edyann Really? They picked up 8 birds and one died. It also appears it's now less than 3,000 barrels. I literally live across from the beach, too, and in sight of the platform off HB, Relax, anyway, they've been living with oil seepage in the area since before humans arrived.

@leekyungmin-t6u It worked fine, had been recently inspected, it was a cargo ship dragging an anchor over it, never rush to judgement. Now it's less than 3,000 barrels and will be gone in a couple of weeks, they only found 8 birds to clean today, so much for the "NEWS".
1
Earthquakes will release more oil in one day than leaked in this history of drilling. You are an idiot.
1
Exactly, turns out it was less than 3,000 barrels and will be gone in a few weeks, they only found 8 birds to clean today, so much for our news services telling us the truth.

I live in Long Beach, ours are beautiful, love them, they are part of my front yard.

I live within sight of the oil platform mentioned, we have special bike lanes and paths, buses, trains, and both electric and hydrogen powered city vehicles, you don't know what your are talking about. Visit the city of Long Beach California webpage.

WARNING, an oil tanker carries 2 million barrels, this leak was only 3,000 barrels, and oil has been seeping into this area since before humans arrived, and why there are derricks there in the first place. This is not a crisis. I live a few miles from the spill, and the 100 cargo ships parked near me, running diesel and dumping waste 24/7 as the port backs up, represents a bigger danger to the environment.

1
3,000 barrels is nothing, it would only be a drop in an oil tanker that hold 2 million, this has been exaggerated.
1
Relax, I live here, was just at the beach, this is a small spill, and will have no lasting affect.

1
Yes, it appears the pipeline had been recently inspected with no issues, and it was most likely a cargo ship dragging an anchor took out a potion of the pipe. It also looks like estimates of the spill were "worse case" based on the total capacity of the pipe, but since it was capped quickly, the total amount is less the 3,000 barrels. This is not "massive", it is not a disaster, and will be cleaned up in a few weeks.

More like 100 ships, not all from China, I can see them from my front door, they've been backed up for almost 18 months, and the diesel fumes and soot worry me more than this small oil spill which will be gone in a couple of weeks. 95% of the posts here are off the mark, which is about average, I'd say that's more dangerous than the spill.
1
No, the platform is offshore, I have taken many photos of it, the leak is nothing, it is being exaggerated.

1
It did not happen that way, turns out the pipe was in good condition, just inspected, it was probably a cargo ship anchor the damaged the pipe. That's what the Coast Guard is saying, and they have divers now looking at it.
1
Huntington Beach has been pumping oil for over 100 years and has some of the cleanest and most visited beaches in the world, this was not a disaster, the spill amount is less than reported, and will be gone in a few weeks. I live a few miles from the spill, it is being reported incorrectly and gives a false sense of what happened.

Now revised down to less than 600 barrels. Are you not mad that you were lied to?

What? Oil has been seeping into that environment since before humans arrived, why do you think we are there to get the oil, it is NATURAL to the environment. 3,000 barrels in nothing.

US Coast Guard revises spill estimate to 588 barrels, not a big deal.

Turns out not the oil company but a cargo ship that dragged it's anchor over the pipe. The pipe had recently been inspected by the State and just fine. Of course, you rushed to judgement.
