Zakir was a dear friend of (San Francisco) SFJAZZ since the organization began in 1983, performing dozens of times on our stages, notably as part of our Sacred Space series at Grace Cathedral in duo with Joe Henderson, Pharoah Sanders, and Charles Lloyd. Additionally, he was a longtime member of the SFJAZZ Board of Trustees, and an SFJAZZ Resident Artistic Director from 2014-2016.
