Ridiculous, the California fires are in distant rural areas, and even the smallest fires create their own wind and weather, we burn like this almost every year, and where I am, at the beach in Southern California, it's really overcast and cool, one of the coolest summer's on record.   11. Yes, I was born in California in 1955, and there have been fires every year, and every year in perhaps the last 5,000 years. The place I was born was called "Valley of the Smokes" by the indigenous peoples. Fire is part of the ecology of the area, that, and earthquakes.

  15.  @4dbak  There have been loss of property, and many lives were lost near where the Dixie fire is a few years ago, that was devastating, but could have been avoided. People will adapt to these changes, but there will be both pain and challenge. I wonder if West Coasters know about the 1938 Hurricane that blew down most of the White Pine in the North East, making way for the "Fall Colors". Change is inevitable.

  16.  @jefferypinley4336  I assumed you understood, but Europeans don't know that Eastern Oregon and parts of California have volcanic rocky and are mostly barren. I listen to the BBC regularly and am often incredulous at their reportage, then read these threads and ask myself, with facts as near as a few keystrokes, most would rather rant and rave with emotion rather than think. So, that's the product, emotion, and lots of takers, and BBC gets funded. That worries me more than climate change.

Your lifespan is not long enough to easily understand the process, which will move at a speed almost imperceptible to you, and to those around you. Change is already taking place, there are major developments being made by people you are unaware of, not in secret, but only because you can't see it.   23. The U.S. has reduced FF consumption, and California is going full EV, adaption is something humans are good at, we've adapted to almost every environment on the planet, and did that so well, we are even able to leave the planet and take our "nature" with us.

  28. @Daehny 7 Yeah, but the water table in the Central Valley is dropping fast, even with the record Snow pack in 2017 and 2019, we may need to start bringing it in from the north and start working seriously on desalination. Instead of a bullet train, we should be creating water storage.

  33.  @eternityeternity78  I've travelled in British Columbia and much of the Pacific Northwest, in 10 years it will look much like it does now. No question change is occurring, but not at the extreme rates you are focusing on. Stop burning the Amazon and it will again absorb more C02. But we only speculate if that's good for the planet or not.
