Orson Welles was in Red Channels, and although he left for England in 1947, said there was nothing political is his leaving. He'd had two flops and had become a Hollywood pariah not for his politics, but his behavior. He also worked in American television in the early 1950s. and came back during the height of the Red scare and worked. In a 1970s interview Welles himself says he was not blacklisted, although the FBI did have a file on him, they knew he was not a Communist.

1950 Levering Act, CALIFORNIA (Cal. Gov. Code § 3100-3109) was a law enacted by the U.S. state of California. It required state employees to subscribe to a loyalty oath that specifically disavowed radical beliefs. It was aimed in particular at employees of the University of California. Several teachers lost their positions when they refused to sign loyalty oaths.

@royboy4571 The only one on this list who did not eventually succeed in their lifetime was Paul Robeson, who travelled to Russia and spoke out against America from there. His statements in retrospect have been proven false, as he was duped by the Soviets, much like George Bernard Shaw was duped.

In 1969, the Board of Regents of the University of California fired Angela Davis for her membership in the Communist Party. Firing was later overturned, but they fired her a 2nd time.
