Insurrection and Executive Power: The law states: "Whenever the President considers that unlawful obstructions, combinations, or assemblages or rebellion against authority of United States makes it impracticable to enforce the law of the United States in any State or territory by judicial proceedings, the President may call into Federal service the militia of any State and use the Federal military to enforce the laws or suppress the rebellion." A third option -- the most generalized provision -- says the president can use the armed forces when there is an interference with federal or state law. The president may use the military to suppress insurrection, domestic violence, unlawful combination or conspiracy if "(a) it so hinders the execution of law of that State and of the United States and it deprives citizens of constitutional rights (e.g. due process); or (b) it opposes or obstructs the execution of laws or impedes the course of justice. In the event of the deprivation of rights, the State is deemed to have denied its citizens equal protection of laws."

Few understand the attack from the left is to the Electoral College and the Constitution which they consider obsolete. They want a "pure democracy", something even Socrates didn't like, and coalition governance like the EU. That would be the end of the Westphalian Peace, no more nation/states, just one egalitarian, democratic Utopia, which in practice would be the dystopia they fear most, pure tyranny, full of dictators galore.

@Irinrover Yeah, easy to push back on those who want the US to be a tyranny of the mob, their tribe, against, well, whatever it is at the time they are against, but rationality is not their strong-suit.

@Irinrover "foolish leaders of Democracy, which is a charming form of government, full of variety and disorder, and dispensing a sort of equality to equals and unequaled alike." - Socrates, 2500 years ago, via Plato.

@Irinrover Athens wasn't exactly a pure democracy, only men who completed military service could vote, and they voted on broken shards of pottery, which is where our contemporary name "ostracize" comes from. It's a battle since human time began, is my assumption. When 3% of the people to 50% of the work, communes will not work. That yogurt I put in the fridge with my name on it ends up being eaten by someone else. Evolution will have to increase the rate conscientiousness is distributed over the population before the big "D" will function.
