They lived in a time of many Messiahs, one more would not have been of great concern unless that had an army and weapons, then that would have been a threat to their alliance with the Romans. In the first century, there were several individuals who were considered or claimed to be messiahs. Jesus did not lead a revolt, the others did. Jesus of Nazareth: Believed by Christians to be the Messiah and the Son of God. Judas of Galilee: Led a revolt against the Roman Empire and was considered a messianic figure by some. Simon of Peraea: Another leader who claimed to be the Messiah and led a revolt. Theudas: Mentioned by Josephus and in the Acts of the Apostles as a messianic figure. Athronges the Shepherd: Claimed to be the Messiah and led a rebellion.
