  2. Augustine was a "Berber" from North Africa and wrote about "Us Africans", seems like a statement of identity to me. In fact, there were a lot of issues within Romanization related to identity, as a "Roman" identity imbued very specific privilege. Orr is self-deluded and not a good teacher.

  3.  @nunyabizness3777  I'd have to disagree. There are books written about Augustine's identity as an African written before this age of identity politics. Augustine himself writes about his fractured identity. He was the son of a Roman colonialist who married an indigenous local, and grew up on a border between African paganism and nascent Christianity. His writing is full of reconciliation between those two realities. Orr is just wrong.
