  4. I lived in the Bay Area, specifically San Francisco, for a decade, and born in California almost 70 years ago. There's more than a 100 year legacy of counter-Western philosophy and theology in the Bay Area of Northern California. In the late 1960s my favorite was Alan Watts, who broadcast from a radio station in the area, KPFA-FM, who aligned in the Buddhist tradition of Gary Snyder and those anti-Western intellectuals who were published by Ferlinghetti's "City Lights Books", think of Jack Kerouac. But it goes back further, as Yusuf described. I used to buy books at Yusuf's grandfather's store, Fields, it was a Mecca for counter-Western intellectuals in San Francisco, no pun intended.

  9. "Stunned", they both reacted equivocally to the idea of Deeds vs Grace, that would be a subject for an entire podcast. I'd say Yusuf was the one taken aback. He clearly thinks Deeds more important, the actual preparation for infinity is Deed, not Grace.

  11. I was all in up to the end, when Yusuf seemed to equivocate on "Deeds vs Grace". I feel his pain on this, and can see it is difficult for him to reconcile, especially since his description of sin being missing the coherent center of truth being so good and real. If you prepare for death and do not receive "grace", how is that not itself a sin?

  20. I'm good with that, it's a taxonomy for hitting the mark, the coherent center of truth and reality, but what you describe is a DEED, an act of Will, and the Qur'an says you only get to heaven through Grace. How do you reconcile that?

It's not impossible, it's just you can't imagine it otherwise, just like your ancestors could not believe the earth was the center of the universe, which it is not.

  26. JBP has videos on the Sumer connection, he does not ignore them, why would you think so? The "stories" predate written language, as in the Greek oral tradition of Homer. Perhaps one story of G_d has less noise than others, and hits the center of coherent truth with more accuracy. Just a thought.
