In California, a U.S. state with almost 40 million people, access to abortion services by women of color, as well as woman in the US illegally, have few barriers. There are federal laws which prevent federal money to be used, but California pays for Abortion services out of State funds. It's free for those who cannot afford it. Not all US states have this "service", but many do. So lack of access is a myth, except is some States where services are not free. Even in states that do not pay, the fee is quite low, less than $600.

"Agency" is problematic since here in America "Health of the Mother" now includes "Mental Health". Does someone suffering a mental illness due to pregnancy have legal "agency" to make a medical decision?

@SmartGuides99 Then you would designate abortion a "justifiable homicide", I would agree.

@essiotll "Agency" as defined by law, which has changed over time, and here in America, holds different legal definitions based on geography and whether a criminal or civil case. An insanity defense is basically a lack of agency defense. "Health of the Mother" now includes "Mental Health", which only adds to the complication of the use of the word "Agency".

China's 35 years of "One Child" rule lead to abortions if a "female" was to be born, was that a "moral" choice in that culture?

3rd Wave Feminist call abortion "An Act of Love" which is an extreme "moral" position.

@eamari87 Sure, we can have that discussion, but I was responding to the myth about the economics of "access" myth. Ann is walking a fine line against a 3rd rail that can kill. At first gave this a thumbs down, but changed to thumbs up. My one criticism is her use of the word "agency", which in itself has a "moral" definition as well as a legal one, which is why this is so complicated for me. Sometimes a homicide is both legally and morally justified.
