  1. The “AR” in “AR-15” rifle stands for ArmaLite rifle, after the company that developed it in the 1950s. “AR” does NOT stand for “assault rifle” or “automatic rifle.” AR-15-style rifles are NOT “assault weapons” or “assault rifles.”

  2.  @dutchdna  Not by an "assault rifle", you are correct. A Red SUV is not an "assault rifle" either, nor a fertilizer bomb in a van parked next to a government building.

  3.  @randybird9979  My original comment starting this thread related to Biden's speech referring to a ban on "assault rifles". I agree, an "assault weapon" can take many forms, even be a bar of soap.
