Prop 47 did not decriminalize theft. It also does not apply when 2 or more are involved. Even if you lift something under $950 it's still a felony to resell it.

@ivermec-tin666 BTW, I lived in SF during the 1980s/90s, even drove for DeSoto Cab at one point. I heard gunshots every night in the Western Addition and transported drug dealers and prostitutes from the area around Jones and O'Farrell. I know it is worse now, but bad then, too. Harvey Milk created a deep split in SF politics it never recovered from.

CALIFORNIA PROP 1 AUTHORIZES $6.38 BILLION IN BONDS TO BUILD MENTAL HEALTH TREATMENT FACILITIES FOR THOSE WITH MENTAL HEALTH AND SUBSTANCE USE CHALLENGES; PROVIDES HOUSING FOR THE HOMELESS. LEGISLATIVE STATUTE.

Newsom is directly involved with changes to Prop 47. Prop 47 does not apply when 2 or more involved in smash and grab. I love the FIVE, but you got this one wrong. Newsom is an opportunist, no doubt, but not a Woke ideologue. He would flip to MAGA if he thought that would achieve his personal goal of power.

@ivermec-tin666 Prop 47 $950, This Act reduces most drug possession offenses and thefts of property valued under $950.00 from felonies to misdemeanors. It was not decriminalized, but few districts will charge the misdemeanors which created the incentive for more shoplifting. Smash and Grab still a felony and reselling shoplifted items still a felony. Gavin is not to be trusted, but moderates need to speak out against exaggerations from both extremes. Go to primary sources, not the emotional rhetoric.

@ivermec-tin666 Ok, we were there at the same time. The Tenderloin was poor people and drug users, but the Western Addition had gang violence. The area around UN Plaza on Market Street was a no go for me, as was the Muni/Bart station at Powell. 24th and Mission was also a no go when I drove a cab. I understand what was bad then has spread to areas never imagined, like Laurel Heights or the Financial District. The big hotels closing and Nordstrom at the San Francisco Center, a place I was in when it opened after the 1989 earthquake is a gut punch. The expansion of Moscone Center and new activity SOMA was exciting, but it didn't pan out too well. I was writing HTML code in 1994 at my place at Van Ness and Turk, was offered a job at Wired Magazine but took one in LA instead. SF fusion cooking was big, but the city got a very bad fusion of Tech and extreme left politics, doesn't taste very good.

Not true, and it is a felony to steal and resell.

Still a felony in CA to shoplift and resell.
