"Proportionality" is being distorted by both sides. In International Law it refers to suffering that is caused in no direct relation to a concrete military advantage and in disproportion with it. It's not a ratio how many killed on each side, but the intent by those doing the killing.

@waynereloaded87 mens rea (intent) is a key legal concept when determining guilt. In any case, what are the chances of what you describe as "intent" every making it to an international court, and if so, how long would it take? The ICC covers act by individuals, the ICJ acts by nation/states. For Israel the question is irrelevant, their INTENT is to survive. There are 22 Arab Nations, 450 million, 1 Jewish State, less than 8 million. Oppressor/Oppressed?
