  2. The San Remo Conference, held in April 1920, resulted in the creation of mandates for the administration of four former Ottoman territories in the Middle East. These territories were: 1. *Palestine* - Mandated to Great Britain 2. *Syria/Lebanon* - Mandated to France 3. *Mesopotamia* (modern-day Iraq) - Mandated to Great Britain These TEMPORARY mandates were intended to guide the territories towards self-governance and independence under the supervision of the mandatory powers. Great Brittan exited what is now Jordan in 1946 and Israel 1948. The French didn't leave until a decade later. Iraq became a recognized State earlier in 1932. Both Israel and Jordan were born out of the British Palestine Mandate. General Clark left that bit out. Why?
