Bel-Air fire 1961, same area, what lesson from that fact?
18
I've lived here since the 1950s, not the first rodeo, check Bel-Air fire 1961
11
Newsom is term limiting out and had nothing to do with this
7
Plenty of water, no water pressure when you open up a dozen hydrants at the same time
7
Plenty of water, you AI bot. It was water pressure.
7
Newsom will term out soon and sell grapes.
5
no, we've had this issue as population increased in the 1950s, check the Bel-Air fire 1961, I remember it.
3
No, this has been an ongoing issue for 70 years.
3
LA Department of Water and Power supplies homes and hydrants, plenty of water, no pressure, especially up hill.

This area of Pacific Palisades has never burned to this extent. It's my home, but it was known to everyone it would someday burn like this. We have some responsibility, too.
2
Most of Pacific Palisades was developed in the late 1950s early 1960s, areas now burning in Mandeville Canyon built after 1980 will survive the fire. Codes have changed. The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power is already dealing with 100 year old pipes in some areas. It's a big issue Most homes burn from the inside out as embers get in through crawlspace vents and under eaves. New homes have vent protection and older homes can be retrofitted.

@yaminhaniyah2979 No, I live in the area, and that's not far fetched at all. They did catch at least one arsonist, and the Woodley fire was started by a human. It happens. We were warned of Wind even two days ahead, roads were closed and SCE sent out warnings.
2
Los Angeles Department of Water and Power is in charge. PLENTY OF WATER, the hydrants are not designed to be opened a dozen at a time, no pressure. Stop the lie
2
@hightidelowtide6380 nothing to do with Dems, this cuts across 70 years from both parties. Stop it
2
@LilbobblowsAndreSpilatroLi-p1k Encino and Stone Canyon reservoirs are being used by Chinook Helicopters in the Santa Monica Mountains. The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power feeds hydrants, not that local reservoir.
2
nonsense, the coast is available to all, we have access. I've lived on the coast since the 1950s. You are the problem we are about to fix.
2
40,000 dead in one day in Syria, 650,000 by Assad with mass graves being discovered. Add in Yemen you have close to 2 million dead, but you focus on just one thing, over and over again. Taqiyya.
1
@JesusChrist-rn6hl Yeah lot's of idiots talking trash about things they know nothing about. Newsom is about to term out anyway.
1
LA County is 5,000 square miles with 9 million people. FD is not the same size it was in 1950. That's a lie, just in the Palmdale area alone.
1
No, not that at all. You've never been in a SoCal wind driven fire, have you?
1
Let alone the undocumented workers needed for the jobs.
1
Remember the Bel-Air fire 1961? This is not new. We've known decades this would burn hard. Drive Temescal Canyon and see the dense overgrown streets and homes with thick privacy hedges. Lucky it took this long to happen.
1
FALSE, we have no forests in Pacific Palisades, there was plenty of water, but no pressure because so many hydrants were open. You can't denude the hillsides because of erosion. We need the grass and chaparral to stop flooding.
1
70 years this issue not addressed, spans both parties. Newsom will term limit soon, won't make any difference.
1
don't conflate two unrelated issues. Not how it works.
1
FYI Governor Gavin Newsom's current term ends at the end of 2026, less than a year away. Since he is limited to two terms, he will not be able to run for re-election in 2026.

@charliehorey9886 Finally, more comments with facts, I'm no longer the lone commenter.

@angelaleblanc6584 No, they will not, they will get more.

Altadena, CA was built by African Americans during the Jim Crow era. What is "only beginning" for them. They were just wiped off the map.
