The Stamp Act of 1765 was enacted by the British Parliament to help cover the costs incurred during the Seven Years' War (1756-1763) and to fund the ongoing defense of the American colonies. It was not a "TARIFF". What really PISSED US OFF was this: The Quartering Acts required the colonies to provide housing and supplies for British troops stationed in North America. The 1774 Act pretty required private homeowners to house and feed British soldiers. A final deal breaker.
