I agree, but sometimes their coverage is exaggerated for the same affect, to capture emotions. This story they've blown out of all normal proportion, and conflated water issues in California and Oregon, which is factually incorrect.

Not the same place, not the same issue and DW has the context wrong, and you know it. the Central Valley of California will have to get water from elsewhere, and yes, that's been known for decades, and planning for it is in place.

California had record snow pack in 2017 and 2019, water is an issue, but not in the context of the fires.

@7schlafer886 Los Angeles is about 750 square kilometers, Oregon is 160,000 square kilometers. And California is about 270,000 square kilometers. Judge for yourself. The area burned is relatively small, in a rural area, and will grow back, as it has done before.

There are many "abandoned" "original peoples" sites that pre-date European arrival. In fact, there were "waves" of "original peoples" who came and themselves disappeared. You are mythologizing, creating a fantasy that did not happen.

California allows for gray water collection, that's not true, we have an entire industry dedicated to it, and have been leaders in the technology. nonsense. What's illegal is to call it drinking water, which is a good thing.

DW is again conflating fire and water issues, which is not true, and the city of Los Angeles is a small land mass compared to the greater area where the fires are. We have one cattle ranch in California running more than 100,000 head, with 100s harvested each day, this report is "uber" exaggerated, your emotions are being monetized.

We have a number of desalination projects running now, I live just a few miles from one, and there's another down the coast about 5 miles. We will not go extinct, we will adapt, and already are.

@JA238979 I've studied and spoken to some, like the Tongva, in my region, and Miwok up north. What I discovered is "bad acts" by humans did not arrive with Europeans, and all things being equal, if you believe that, there's not much difference between then and now, except numbers and technology. I don't think the Tongva had much to say about 30 million humans living on their ancestral ground. I'm not judging that, either way, just a fact.

While I don't agree with your specifics, generally agree with concept, and California needs a water management upgrade, no doubt, much more than a bullet train. Gov Brown screwed us on that, and he's sitting on a NorCal farm himself, these days.

The first TRUE statement I've read here. Yes, it will be an energy issue, I live a few miles away from a reverse osmosis desalination project here in Southern California, it's run on natural gas, but could be run on many other forms of energy, including ocean thermal energy, or safe nuclear, we will not go "extinct"

Not true, many came to the Western Hemisphere and failed, there are lots of abandoned sites, and people who were unable to sustain existence prior to the arrival of Europeans. What you assert is a myth.

The Blackfeet, the Mandan, and other plains tribes had guns and horses, where did they get them? The Blackfeet and Mandan waged war on their neighbors, took slaves, and both bought and sold women. Bad acts did not arrive with Europeans. There were massive changes in population, pre-Columbian, due to many factors, including climate change. Only self-serving myth makers would say otherwise.

@Pyrochemik007 Neither do forests not stressed with disease. In my local mountains the combination of smog and insects make them extremely vulnerable to fire. But it is not the end of the world, and humans are not a deadly pathogen on the planet. I thought that when I was 16, but at 66, don't think that at all.
