"Mass Shooting" is not defined here. A mass shooting may be defined as 2 or 3 shot but not necessarily killed, so this headline is misleading. Australia has a more reasoned definition of a mass shooting, and if used in the US, would reduce the number here from 240 to about 30.

Switzerland has a very high suicide rate by gun, which tells us it is not the gun, but the culture. Less than 600 deaths in US each year by rifle, that is on par with other countries, but handgun deaths are 30X that rate.

@JavenarchX Less than 600 deaths from long guns in the US, you solution does not make sense, more people are killed by knives and blunt objects. A woman in California just killed her 3 children that way. It's not the gun, death comes in many forms.

Texas Tower 1966, 14 killed. Ex-Military sharp shooter with brain tumor who asked for help but didn't get it. That was more than 50 years ago, still little help for those in need. It's not the gun. That shooter first used a knife to kill his mother, so not the gun.

Oklahoma bombing killed 168 using materials you can get from Home Depot.

There are less than 600 deaths a year by long guns in the US. More are killed by knives and blunt objects, including hands and feet. These are FBI crime statistics, you can check them yourself. The focus should not be on rifles, but handguns, which account for 30X the number of deaths.

Less than 600 deaths per year are by rifle in US, more by knifes and blunt objects. It's not the gun.

@I_Am_Monad Please check further, the definition you described is used by the Congressional Research Service and others but there is a consensus there is no consensus, but should be. A mass shooting may not kill or even injure someone. I doubt most people know that, and it is worth making clear.

@I_Am_Monad Not true, Brazil ranks higher.

@logiclust Less than 600 deaths per year by rifle in US, more by knives and blunt object, simple stats provided by FBI. It's not the guns.
