  6. not so, what most of us have is called a 401K, a tax deferred retirement plan in some cases funded by employer matching funds. I've retired on one and doing very well, converted it to an IRA and invested in safe dividend stocks backed by real property.

  8. Inverted curve, when long term bond rates are less then short term, better to shed long term bonds and invest in short, which is big right now. i can get a 2-year CD at Chase for 4% so don't have to be stuck with a 10-year position.

  35. It was a bad bet on rates staying low for their MBS investments, they didn't go bad, just the direction of long-term bond rate. Inverted curve, they didn't hedge, then panicked.
