Comments by "nuqwestr" (@nuqwestr) on "Rain from Tropical Storm Hilary lashes California | DW News" video.
Tropical storms in California have occurred recently. Here are some notable examples: 1. **Elida (1992)**: Elida was a tropical storm that formed off the coast of Baja California in August 1992. While it did not make a direct landfall in California, its moisture and remnants brought heavy rainfall to parts of Southern California, causing localized flooding and mudslides. 2. **Kiko (2007)**: Kiko was a tropical storm that formed in the eastern Pacific in August 2007. While it weakened before reaching California, its remnants contributed to increased moisture and rainfall, causing flooding in some areas and triggering concerns about mudslides. 3. **Norbert (2008)**: Norbert was a hurricane that weakened to a tropical storm before making landfall on the Baja California Peninsula in early October 2008. Its remnants brought rain to Southern California, leading to flooding and the closure of some roads. 4. **Linda (2015)**: In September 2015, the remnants of Hurricane Linda brought increased moisture to California, leading to heavy rainfall and thunderstorms in parts of the state. This resulted in flash floods and road closures. 5. **Lidia (2017)**: Lidia was a tropical storm that impacted Baja California in September 2017. While the storm's center remained well south of California, its moisture contributed to heavy rainfall and flooding in some southern parts of the state.

No, we get pacific cyclones every year, this is the 5th remnant storm like this since 1992. Not climate change.

I'm also near Cherry Beach, felt the earthquake, rain, some wind, but this is the 5th summer storm I've experienced here since 1995. Remember the waves from August 2014, Hurricane Marie.

@1ACL "mud slides" are part of living in the San Bernardino Mountains, mud-debris chutes have been engineered to control them, they started that back in the 1970s. Why? Because that's been the topography since before Europeans arrived.

I'm in Long Beach on the 4th floor and felt the earthquake, rain heavy but only unusual for August, been much heavier in January.
