  3. That I agree with, the pipes are in some cases over 100 years old. The area in Pacific Palisades which needed the hydrant pressure were built in the late 1950s early 1960s. I know, I lived there. Still, the majority of houses would not have been saved, they burned simultaneously from the inside out. Those homes needed Eaves and Crawl Space Vent protection, along with those privacy hedges gone. Some of this is our own homeowner fault.

  4. All true, in fact we need the chaparral to retain the soil against flooding, and the grasses, too. Most homes are burned from the inside out, ember enter through attic vents. There are now vents that close automatically in high winds to keep the embers out. So much erroneous news on the subject, thanks for the good stuff you posted.

When 20 homes in four square blocks go up simultaneously, no hydrant system will handle the pressure, not designed for that. The homes burned from the inside out. They needed crawlspace vent protection from the embers. We know this but did not prepare. The avalanche of lies about these fires is overwhelming me.

Alec Gellis, a Malibu resident, used his own hose, water pump, and water from his pool to protect his home and two neighboring houses from the Franklin Fire. He even managed to save a 100-year-old tortoise in the process!

  9. We have firefighting equipment from Canada we rent each year, they were already in place for events like this. We train for this, equipment from 100 miles away was there in a few hours to help.

  52. No, no and no. We don't have forests in Pacific Palisades. The hillsides need grass and chaparral to maintain soil and keep floods mitigated. We have clearance codes with heavy fines. 50mph winds carry embers more than a mile away. Embers get into the attic spaces through vents and homes burn from the inside out. We've learned that, and there are now vent systems that close automatically in high winds. We could have done a better job of clearing our property. Many of us like high thick privacy hedges and foliage in our yards. Bad idea, and we've known for decades this would someday happen.
