  1. The "Mandate" was not British, but the Allied Powers. The British were only given one region of the Mandate, and it had no specific "expiration" date. The Mandate for Palestine was assigned to His Majesty by the Supreme Council of the Allied Powers in 1920, was approved by the League of Nations in 1922 and took effect in 1923, when the Treaty of Lausanne was signed. "Certain communities formerly belonging to the Turkish Empire have reached a state of development where their existence as independent nations can be provisionally recognized subject to the rendering of administrative advice and assistance by a Mandatory Administration until such time as they are able to stand alone." - PALESTINE: TERMINATION OF THE MANDATE 15 May 1948 Israel was able to "Stand Alone", the Arabs, apparently, were not.
