Taqiyya is a religious rationalization for lying. Pure and simple. You can even lie about Taqiyya itself.

  14. @ "No one expected Assad to fall". I think there were backroom deals. Let's see if we ever know what really happened. The Assad army made up of regular human beings were not getting paid enough to take care of their families. Could that be one reason? Some of those soldiers may be fighting for Russia, too. Very complicated business. Syrians were recruited to fight for Russia in Ukraine. If I were an Assad soldier, I'd lay down my arms to the HTS, too.

  21. "al-Jolani" or "al-Golani" is not his real name. He was born in the Golan region of Syria after Israel took the Heights in the 1967 war. The area is currently annexed by Israel and populated by Syrian-Druze. The Qur'an gives believers the permission to lie in times of war, it's called al-Taqiyya. His words mean nothing, only his actions will have meaning.
