I feel for you, here in California scores have plummeted, the answer by admin is to lower standards and remove testing for K-12. The proposed New Math Framework for K-12 is all about Social Justice and Equity. Why do Teacher's Unions all across the country seem to only support Dem Party. It's out of balance, why?

Really, it appears Canada does not believe in free speech as we do, and Trudeau just instituted a commission to give permits to news services. If no permit, no access. I would not want Canadian values to run our K-12 school system.

@skankhunt3624 I am a California Dem who watched too much progressive left media since the late 1960s, Alinsky's "Rules for Radicals" states don't attack the argument, attack the person, it's more effective. You may not know why you do it, but that's why, and it's now part of the leftist media playbook. @jascrandom9855 Not true, CRT is a framework for teaching all things. California's proposed New Math Framework is steeped in CRT down to how math word problems can promote injustice and are not fair to BIPOC, and that "grades" are an extension of colonialism and the patriarchy. It's the framework of CRT being injected into K-12, and an agenda to change culture starting with children, not history. Read both Bell and Crenshaw, both assert these values must be inculcated in children for real change to occur. CRT is being taught to teachers and administrators then framed in K-12. Almost a done deal here.

@jascrandom9855 Look, I've done the deep dive, and the new book by James Lindsay lays it all out with a thick section of citations and references. Crenshaw and the crew at a conference in Madison, WI laid down the first principals of CRT in the early 1980s based on courses by Bell that were no longer being taught. CRT has grown from there to be a framework, and in my estimation, a doctrinaire like religion which requires adherents to write a DEI statement before being hired, which many K-12 schools now do. You can keep pushing your narrow, archaic definition, but it is passé, and at best disingenuous.

If CRT is being used as a framework for curriculum, something a new book "Race Marxism" documents with citations and references, should not parents know what it is? It's not "history" nor a graduate level legal course, it is a framework for teaching all things, and melded with both gender and DEI theories about how to change the culture, which must start with children, as Crenshaw herself has stated. Do you think teachers should be coerced into writing a DEI statement before being hired?

@jascrandom9855 In the early 1980s Crenshaw and others got together at a conference and wanted to continue the work of Bell, they called it CRT. It is now much more than you define, which is passé. Do you think teachers should write a DEI statement before being hired? That's CRT, and it is going on with K-12 all over the country. The teaching materials are online for you to see, even CRT material for pre-school. You don't want to see it, or perhaps you just don't want others to.

@jascrandom9855 I was in high school in 1970, we were taught the "ugly", and the library had books about it. I read one written in 1962 called "The Invisible Government", a best seller, which tells the story, among others, of the Bay of Pigs and CIA involvement in IRAN. It's not about the facts, it is about the context in which they are placed, which is right out of Das Kapital, I know, because I was once par of the Marxist strategy to change the world. The "ugly" is not a secret as it is in other countries, like Russia and China. History should be taught in an age appropriate manner, the good, bad, and the ugly, but not in a doctrinaire manner, telling kids to believe this or you will be a heretic and shunned, which is what is going on.

@jascrandom9855 A loyalty statement does not guarantee knowledge or adherence of DEI, and only coerces people to lie, which is worse. In fact, we are living in a time when lies have virtue, and a false-consciousness has become mandatory. More people self-censor today than in my youth, it's a sickness.

@jascrandom9855 The organization F.I.R.E. has studied self-censorship and free speech on campuses in North America. Psychology Today published an article on the rise last July. It often feels like being in a fundamentalists Christian community these days, I live in a very woke city, and many "diverse" people don't even speak to one another. I'm seeing the emergence of a new Jim Crow style segregation, very distributing, but I'll be soon gone, the kids will have to sort it out.

You didn't mention the Psychology Today article from just last summer, hardly a conservative journal. Today, the doctrine, the dogma, the coerced conformity, it is wrong, and not progress.

California's proposed NEW MATH FRAMEWORK for K-12 is steeped in CRT, there's a petition against it, but in our one-party state it will most likely go through. No more math testing for the kiddies, and the explanation is CRT. Social Justice, and Equity Outcomes. Math teachers now have to write a DEI statement before being hired, just like those 1950s loyalty oaths, which were law in California.

Really? You should read the proposed NEW MATCH FRAMEWORK for K-12 in California. It's online CAL DEPT OF ED. Full blown CRT agenda, and teachers have to write a DEI statement to be hired. ASU Diversity Statement: We recognize that race and gender historically have been markers of diversity in institutions of higher education. However, at ASU, we believe that diversity includes additional categories such as socioeconomic background, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, disability, veteran status, nationality and intellectual perspective.

Canada has taken a turn toward doctrinaire governance in more than one way, including a recent constitutional crises as described by former MP Brian Peckford. Your description of "covid disinformation" and mine would be different, and I am saying this after being jabbed thrice. I lived in San Francisco during the 1980s AIDS/HIV epidemic, Fauci spread disinformation then, just as he is doing now, and most recently as of last week. You are much more of a conforming conservative then you think, you are just conserving leftist/progressive talking points, that's the only difference. @maximilianadair3237 Free Speech is in the American constitution, it is not protected in the same way in Canada or the UK. In fact, some speech is now being coerced by Canadian law, and if not spoken, can lead to both fines and jail time. That is not my definition of free speech.

@maximilianadair3237 Fauci and Collins indeed had something to hide, it is called "gain of function" research they helped finance when trusted institutions recommended not doing it, especially not in China. The CDC was wrong during the AIDS/HIV pandemic and WHO has deep political ties to China. I am not a conspiracy theorists, but all large institutions like the CDC and WHO are political in nature, they are less science and more public policy makers, which means they are political. If you've ever attempted a grant to do science, you'd know that writing a grant proposal is excruciatingly political, and if not done in alignment with current dogma, will be rejected. No conspiracy theory, just the way of the world. It's both good science and good public policy to question the institutions, something I learned as an activists in the 1960s, and now being lost to a new orthodoxy which you, and many like you, say can't be questioned.

@RR-ty6zz Algebra may not be used directly, but the abstract thinking that goes into learning algebra is. It's like exercise, use it or lose it, they even give math problems to Alzheimer's patients to help them with cognitive issues, so teach the kids math, it will serve them in many ways later in life, saying it does not is to admit failure.

I'd go back to Bell, and say yes, mostly, but when Crenshaw and crew started the actual CRT movement, and it is in the literature collected by Lindsay for his book "Race Marxism", the goal became a fundamental change to the entire framework of culture and required that change be taught to children, where culture begins. It's not about "skin color", and why a political candidate like Larry Elder can be called "The Black Face of White Supremacy" or when Biden said, "if you don't vote for me, you ain't Black", what we are seeing is a reformation of the old Marxist's "class-struggle" theory as advocated by post-WW2 Marxists like Marcuse and Gramsci before him. I'm for individual sovereign rights, but the CRT crowd believes identity is achieved through social group identity. This is leading to a sort of resegregation which the CRT might call "creative destruction" of systemic Racism, which is their goal. I think it's wrong, and empirical evidence and experience is showing that it is.

@yurei8 No question too much of CRT is assigned to poor Karl Marx, there are at least 3 major streams of Marxism, I am referring primarily to the American version as asserted by Herbert Marcuse in the 1960s with his pamphlet, "One Dimensional Man" which flooded college campuses and the minds of activists like Angela Davis, along with European academic ideas of "Critical Theory", and Saul Alinsky's "Rules for Radicals", added with the activism that came out of the AIDS/HIV pandemic, we can see where the strategies and tactics originate for CRT. But at its fundamental core, CRT is meant to disrupt and destroy the classic liberal idea of the individual and place us all in intersectional boxes with various degrees of social alignments. I call it Crow Jim.
