Caruso has property on the line of fire in the Brentwood/Montana area.

Yes, so many comments are ignorant of the area. Anyone who drives in Santa Monica Canyon, Chautauqua etc. knew it was only a matter of time. There are plenty of fire breaks, we hike and bike them, but embers in 50mph winds travel a mile or more. I'm so frustrated at the false info coming from both sides in this. Water pressure, not water, and LA County collected BILLIONS in runoff water during our last two big storms. The snail darter issue is 400 miles to the north in the Delta. I'm so pissed off.

PEOPLE: The dams being removed are 500 miles away from the fires in Northern California. The Smelt Fish is Sacramento Delta, 400 miles away. LA County is 5,000 square miles with 9 million people. California is 165,000 square miles with 34 million people. Pacific Palisades has a population of 24,000. PERSPECTIVE.

The *Bunker Hill Basin* is part of a larger effort to expand groundwater storage from runoff. The *San Bernardino Valley Water Conservation District* (SBVWCD) manages several projects aimed at capturing and storing stormwater and floodwater to replenish groundwater supplies. These projects include spreading grounds, recharge basins, and other infrastructure designed to maximize the capture of runoff from the San Bernardino and San Gabriel Mountains.

The *Bel-Air Fire* of 1961 was a devastating wildfire that burned from November 6 to November 8, 1961. Despite the extensive damage, *no lives were lost* in the fire. However, it did cause injuries to at least **200 firefighters**, mostly due to smoke and flying embers. The fire destroyed *484 homes* and burned *6,090 acres* of land. It was fueled by strong Santa Ana winds, which are notorious for exacerbating wildfires in Southern California.

Pacific Palisades has NO FOREST. LA County alone is 5,000 square miles with a population of 9 million. We have plenty of fire breaks in the Santa Monica Mtns, we hike and bike them all the time, but embers in a 50mph wind will travel almost a mile. The ignorance demonstrated in this comment section and by Megyn and her guests really pissing me off.

@tammymullins1151 winds are the primary driver and why other regions of the world with dry brush don't burn as we do. easy to fact check

The *California Governor's Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES)* has an **Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion**. This office was established to embed equity and engagement principles throughout Cal OES’s actions, policies, programs, and procedures, both internally and externally. Their mission is to integrate equity into all aspects of emergency management, foster community resilience, and put diversity into purposeful and meaningful action.

It was not a lack of water but water pressure up into the hills. the issue was physics.

Los Angeles County is actively working on several initiatives to capture and utilize stormwater runoff. 1. *Centralized Spreading Grounds**: The **Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP)* operates large-scale spreading grounds designed to capture and infiltrate runoff into groundwater aquifers. Facilities like the *Hansen, Tujunga, Pacoima, and Lopez Spreading Grounds* have been enhanced to increase storage and recharge capacity. 2. *Distributed Stormwater Capture**: This involves smaller-scale projects such as **rain gardens, rain barrels, and permeable pavers* that capture runoff at the neighborhood and residential level. These projects help replenish groundwater, reduce potable water demand, and alleviate local flooding. 3. **Stormwater Capture Master Plan**: The LADWP has developed a comprehensive plan outlining strategies to increase stormwater capture over the next 20 years. This plan includes evaluating existing facilities, identifying new opportunities, and recommending projects and policies to enhance stormwater capture. 4. *Collaborative Projects**: The LADWP has partnered with organizations like **TreePeople* to implement public education and stormwater management initiatives. These collaborations aim to integrate community involvement and maximize the benefits of stormwater capture.

@JosephReyes-xv5se government did not cause this fire nor the damage to most of the homes. embers fly for a mile and get under eaves and into vents, they burn from the inside out. there's new tech vents and baffles that would have saved many of the homes and businesses.

Los Angeles County has made significant strides in capturing stormwater runoff. During the recent series of winter storms, the county managed to capture over *33 billion gallons of stormwater**. This amount of water is enough to supply **816,000 people* with drinking water for an entire year. The captured water is stored in dams and spreading grounds, then treated and pumped into the groundwater aquifers to replenish the local water supply.

The *U.S. Army Corps of Engineers* has been working on upgrading and expanding the *Tule River Spillway* at the *Richard L. Schafer Dam* (formerly Success Dam) in Tulare County, California. This project aims to increase the storage capacity of *Success Lake* from *84,095 acre-feet* to approximately *112,000 acre-feet**. The expansion includes constructing a **10-foot-high concrete Ogee Weir* across the dam’s emergency spillway, which will help manage flood risk and increase water conservation capacity for the region.

Governor *Gavin Newsom* issued an executive order to cut red tape and make it easier for local water agencies to capture and use floodwater to recharge groundwater supplies. This order temporarily lifted regulations and streamlined the permitting process, allowing agencies to divert flood stage water without needing permits. The goal is to boost groundwater recharge and storage, helping to address water supply challenges during droughts.
