  1. Matt grew up in the area and should know better, but he got so many things wrong about Brentwood/Pacific Palisades. Megyn got it right, most of these houses were modest boomer houses built in the late 1950s, stucco and wood, 1100 square feet. The land is now valuable, but many of the houses are considered tear downs for fix and flip. The Jewish refugees fleeing Nazis were quite small in number. Most of the Jews who moved to the Westside came from Boyle Heights after WW2 when that area was redlined for two freeways. I know, both my grandparents made that move. I have family in the evacuation zone. There's something about how this started we are not being told. The wind was not high when the fire started. I got video from my cousin as she stood on the median of San Vincente near the Brentwood Country Club.

  2. Cold and foggy, moderate drought only this last month, I checked, rated at 01, lowest level. Fire started before the high winds hit.

  4. Pacific Palisades doesn't have a "forest". Most homes are small, modest wood/stucco houses built in the late 1950s. Land rich but wallet poor. I know, I live in the area.

  5.  @JJRM8  What "warming". The "dry" is an 01, rated Moderate by US Drought Monitor, I checked. I live on the coast, it's been exceptionally cool since February of last year with deep fog banks, very deep this last month when the high surf hit at Sunset and PCH. Our weather oscillates with ENSO. The high winds are normal, although a little late this season. The native plants have adapted to the wind and fire, Manzanita requires it to propagate, and have done so since before humans arrived. "Warming" had nothing to do with it, it's more connected to population and direct human activity. The total global temp may reduce temps in some areas of the globe while heating up others. It's a mean temp, not localized. Over the past century, the global average temperature has increased by about 1.2 degree. That did not cause this fire. The predictions have an error rate so high I would not make plans based on them. Check out Bjorn Lomborg and the Copenhagen Center.
