  1. Power generation is centralized because it makes sense. Power plants are generally in the 100MW to 1 GW range of generating capacity. You could divide that by 10 and require 30 times as much resources. Or divide it by 100 and require 1,000 times the resources. There are BIG economies of scale. Edison's vision was a power plant in every neighborhood. Necessary because DC doesn't transmit over distance well. Tesla figured out how to use Niagara Falls (300 miles away) to power New York City.

  4. Grid power transformers take a year and a half to two years to build. They are not generally a stock item.
