  1. It also wastes power in higher electrical losses. For a fixed sized plant those losses go up as the square of the power drawn. Or to keep losses the same material required for a similar design go up as the square of energy delivered.

  3. Losses are current dependent. They go up as the square of the current. E= IR and P=IE. There are other losses (radiation) but those are the main drivers.
