According to Jewish law - implementing those commandments - abortion (inducing a miscarriage) is equivalent to getting an arm broken. And if done for the mental health of the mother is OK.

@jollygentlegiant3492 We have zealots who want every miscarriage turned into a murder investigation. And at least in the 60s when I was paying attention - abortion was widely available. Not legal, but widely available. Legal is better. My advice - get drug Prohibition to work first.

@ricorosson5752 The complaints will come from innocent women who got investigated and had to hire doctors and lawyers to resist the charges. Not to mention those unfairly convicted (it happens). You imagine things mostly going right and all parties of the government are honest. When reality is different from your imagination the other party gets support. I don't care enough about abortion to risk putting communists in charge to try some theory (Prohibition) that didn't work the last time it was tried. But you know - make Drug Prohibition work - no cartels or gangs - and we can try abortion. Government has limits even if people don't believe that.

@mickeyg2635 i know this is hard to believe - but there are limits to what Government can do and the kind of policing women will put up with. Tell you what though. If you can make Drug Prohibition work - no cartels or gangs - I'd be willing to try Abortion Prohibition - again. Because last time we had it, abortions were not difficult to obtain. If you set government do do something impossible - it lowers respect. And in the end - every government needs respect to function. Most people who want government to 'do something' never consider the limits of what government can do. Republicans believed in Alcohol Prohibition long after the failure was obvious. It got FDR elected.

With pills available it becomes a drug war. And so far no government anywhere ever has won a drug war. The American Government gave up on alcohol a long time ago. What you have to do is change the culture. And for that you need drugged up rock 'n roll bands. Kids with raging PTSD - tend to be very creative.
