  1.  @Andrew-rc3vh  The test will be - does the new currency survive the coming depression? That is the true test. BTW - the Americans are waking up to the defects of being the reserve currency. It means a continuous current account deficit. Money is debt in the current system. If you have an American dollar the Americans owe you.

  5. Bad money drives out good. A very old economic truism. All that is needed for currency survival - will it last to next week? To next month? Is there enough currency to handle the transactions? Can you buy insurance?

  10.  @mna7308  That works as long as the factory has customers and trade by sea is protected. The Americans used to handle freedom of the seas. They might do it again if you ask and pay. China is not independently wealthy. And geography and history give it belligerent neighbors. And of course the War Problem. For Americans (and the world) wars happen elsewhere.   11. @ptaeiy China's Navy is not Blue Water. It is a coastal Navy. At sea transfer of personnel and material is not a Chinese specialty (I was highlined aboard my ship which was taking on oil at sea in '66. South China Sea.). Over 100 years of carrier warfighting (and winning - the losers are now our valued allies) experience. China and America both lost to Vietnam. The difference is that Vietnam is now loosely aligned with the Americans. No war can cure China's demographic problem (which may be terminal). War can only make it worse. For a country with educated women, survival depends on making the future look bright (having children has to look like a very good deal to women). Only one major power in the world even comes close. It is not China.

  12. @ptaeiy The Chinese Navy is a coastal Navy. The American Navy covers all the oceans. The Chinese - the South China Sea mainly. But I must say the idea of threatening your best customers with war was absolutely brilliant. You now have no custom from them. That is a huge improvement don't you think? You are now on your way to unrestricted belligerence. No more customers to worry about. Of course the lack of income makes war more difficult. And more likely. Maybe if you attacked the Americans they would start buying again? That could be a war aim.

  14. The American Economy doesn't depend on international trade, unlike China. China is not independently rich like the Americans. Sean never takes that into account. If the Americans don't provide 'Freedom of the Seas' globalism is over. Reread Alfred Thayer Mahan.
