"They are willing to fight" is what got America out of Vietnam - the Tet Offensive, which Vietnam lost militarily. The same mindset keeps America in Ukraine.

Just about everyone uses enriched uranium for reactors. It makes them smaller. The amount of enrichment possible depends on quality control (control of impurities). American carrier reactors only require one refueling in their 40 year carrier lifetime. That is a great deal of enrichment. Enrichment is not a choke point.

@tizme2311 The facilities are not difficult to build. The USA invented them. What is difficult is low cost electricity. With the US reindustrializing it is entirely possible that this will be restarted. And 24% is right on the edge of being critical. All the oil sanctions were not imposed at once allowing countries to find other suppliers. I expect this is similar with a longer lead time.

@tizme2311 The usual reason for this kind of "panic" is to get government backing and the corruption that goes with it. As I pointed out - Europe was given a year to get off Russian oil. They are being given longer for EU (heh) because of a current lack of suppliers. No doubt that will be corrected.

"Historical Russia" is a Russian Imperial dream. Americans traditionally oppose Imperialism. It is a part of their founding.

Well yes. There are some glaring exceptions like American adoption of French interests in Vietnam. We learned our lesson. "They are willing to fight" is what got America out of Vietnam - the Tet Offensive, which Vietnam lost militarily. The same mindset keeps America in Ukraine.

Dollars are still the king of international trade. There is a market for them. They are backed by the Seventh Fleet. The Sixth. And a few others. And yeah. Brandon and his economics has to go. But I like how he is handling the war.

@Mirage_Panzer I can only tell you my impression of public sentiment in America at the time. If you recall, the North was surprised at the American reaction since, objectively, the North had lost the fight. They lost the military battle, and by that learned that winning battles was not their actual objective. Just staying in the war was enough. Because the Americans saw "They are willing to fight". And decided that the North wanted a win more than they did. And worked to give it to them as soon as possible. I was among the anti-war anti-LBJ protesters at Century City. I didn't stay for the riots. BTW DaNang was a heck of an arty battle. I heard some of it from offshore.

@Mirage_Panzer As in the current Ukraine war if Americans had to fight in the war the support would greatly decline if the war carries on. We are like Russia. For direct involvement we require a quick win. But if they (on our side) want to fight we will back them. We are lucky to have Poland and Ukraine on the front line. Backing for Ukraine is rising faster because it is easy to see that even with favorable exchange rates - manpower is a problem. I'd say the American Generals have decided they have gotten as much attrition as they are going to get.
