  7.  @jmpattillo  The power company doesn't get paid retail for power generation. Why should you? It means you are getting service (reliability) you didn't pay for. They want you to pay. Seems fair to me.

  8. Probably not. Plants are designed to operate at a specific temperature. What are the odds geothermal is that hot? Zero - roughly. All those wires will need to be made and strung. Do you have a logistics estimate? Costs? Roll out speed? etc.

  14. I'm Naval Nuke Trained. I wouldn't allow them without operators. Operators will be a supply issue.

  15.  @danieparriott265  The fail rate in nuke school when I attended was 50%. Most of them ET qualified (not dummies). Thermodynamics was the wash out subject. The Navy needs enough operators for say 200 reactors. Where will you get enough for 20,000 (100MW)? That is 2 orders of magnitude more. I wouldn't leave 100MW of anything unmanned. And especially not small modular nukes until we had at least 50 years experience at scale (thousands).

  18.  @jesan733  Gas will not be a finite resource (except for production) in the USA for a very long time.

  19.  @jesan733  If you are a "long way" from the limit the current resource is effectively infinite (more than you can use for a while). There are theories that the Earth has lots of deep methane and oil. And that it is always bubbling up - old fields get refilled. There is some evidence for this. Not to mention methane asteroids and planets.

  20. Plants need carbon. At 200 ppm they die out. We are only at 400 ppm. We need to go much higher. In greenhouses 1,500 ppm is used to make plants grow more and faster.
