  2. It's not crap, the video has many valid points. Arabs have been living in desert environments for centuries. They built architecture with narrow streets offering shade, used white walls reflecting the sun, etc. Traditional architecture can be beautiful, luxurious and use modern technologies, it doesn't contradict each other. I think building skyscrapers with large glass windows in the desert is dumb. Those buildings are simply unlivable in case of large scale power outage (accident, terror attacks, war), whilst traditional architecture may feel uncomfortable but still liveable. This effect can be seen on large cruise ships in hot climate when the main ship engine fails. The ship turns into unlivable hell almost immediately. This is not only problem of Dubai, but also Las Vegas and many Southeast Asian and Australian cities.

  4. Exactly!!! The Czech Republic has some of the world's finest cultural heritage: gothic, renaissance, baroque, Czech, Austro-Hungarian, German. Even pre-WWII industrial architecture like factory halls or railway infrastructure has some aesthetic value. Everything built after WWII, during the communist era or after 1990 is just plain ugly. With extremely rare exceptions. We absolutely need New Renaissance and start building beautiful houses again! 👍

  6. But there is something more humane about using pen and paper. The plans will be digitalised later anyway. I always think in this way about motorcycles. Old machines from 1970s and 80s don't have the performance of new bikes, but there is something that gives them soul. The difference is that these machines were designed by engineers on drawing boards instead of CAD. Same principle applies to buildings.

I think Dubai embodies everything that is wrong with current society, although there are even worse examples in the worlds (Las Vegas, LA, Shanghai.., and of course the pinnacle of stupidity, the Saudi project of "futuristic" city of NEOM). Consumerism and fake veneer of luxury, generic soulless modernist architecture, extravagant art, insane energy and material consumption, short term thinking and fake sustainability. They do some things right though, we can be inspired by the cleanliness, safety, low taxes and economic diversification. For the insane amount of money that Dubai receives they could have done much better job.

  12. I am delighted to see this movement! This has to happen all over the world! 👍 No more generic stuff! WE HAVE TO BECOME HUMANS AGAIN this transformation has to happen in architecture, design, but also in our lives, our diet, our social interactions. We need REAL houses, real food, real friends, real community. No more blunt modernist architecture, junk food, social media addiction and organised loneliness. As a Czech person I know that people from all over the world appreciate traditional Czech architecture, buildings from bricks and stone with high ceilings and red roofs. Nobody appreciates commie blocks or modernist soulless buildings.

  13. It is great to see the rising of grassroot movement to build back beautiful architecture. Well done. 👍 In Sweden, UK and elsewhere. I am only sceptical about King Charles and his ties to the World Economic Forum, who promote the exact opposite. Ugly, cramped, modernist buildings, smart cities, surveillance. I am afraid this is only the showcase for the rich elite. For the rest of the population there are planned "sustainable" commie blocks.

  15. Yes absolutely! This has to happen all over the world. We have to stop building ugly generic buildings. I am sure Oman has some fine examples of traditional Arab architecture. White buildings with narrow streets that offer shade in hot climate. Not a modernist glasshouses that requires air conditioning. The same goes for Western and Eastern Europe, Russia, China, Japan, India, Africa, Mexico United States and Canada... No more "one type fits all" architecture!

  17. Fantastic project ❤ Guatemala was one of the most interesting countries I ever visited. The Antigua Guatemala Is beautiful. I know the country is facing many challenges and is full of ugly buildings and poor neighbourhoods. This is definitely a step in the right direction.

  18. The underlying problem is MODERNISM itself. Modernism emphasizes experimentation, abstraction, and subjective experience. It rejects all traditional methods and ways of living and thinking. It sees itself as transformative progressive movement and considers tradition to be a backward element which needs to be fought against. In architecture reinforced concrete gave architects an opportunity to build outside of every convention, forget about centuries old rules and techniques. In combination with liberalism, utilitarianism and marxism modernism creates ugliness and soulless experience. Modernism has its place in art but it should never be a mainstream style. We need return to tradition, beauty and rationality.

  20. Modernist and leftist professors LOVE UGLINESS! Not only in architecture but in all visual arts, music, literature... These hypocrites usually live in nice historic buildings, have traditional paintings on their walls, but preach modernism to everyone else outside their "privileged" class. We definitely need renaissance. 👍
